In order to get the most out of your PSP, you should ensure that you are running the latest version of the PSP system software. You can download the latest version from the list on the right, as well as read about all of the added functionality that has come with it. You can also browse the complete history of system software updates that have been released previously.
You can see what version of the system software your PSP is running by going to [Settings] and selecting [System Settings]. Then, select System Information to view the current system software version.
You can update the system software by any of the following methods:
OPTION 1: DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE FROM THIS SITE
Download the update to your computer directly from the download link on the table on the right, and save it to your hard drive. On the PSP please select the settings menu on your XMB (Cross Media Bar) and follow the prompts to system settings. Within the system settings you will be given an option to format memory stick, please do this, as it will create your file structure.
Connect your PSP to your computer via USB and establish a connection, ensure there is sufficient space on your Memory stick before copying the file across.
Copy the firmware update file across to the ‘Update’ folder inside the ‘Game’ folder, which exists in ‘PSP’ (the very first folder).
I.e.; PSP > Game > Update
Once the file has been transferred across, safely remove the PSP from the PC via your task bar.
OPTION 2: DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE FROM THE WIRELESS NETWORK ON YOUR PSP
On the settings area of the PSP’s XMB (Cross Media Bar) you will be given an option to download the software update via a wireless network connection. This download will be saved directly to the memory stick under the Game icon for you to update your PSP.
Note# You will need to ensure you have a wireless network to do this.
Please note that on any System Software Update you must ensure that your battery is at least 50% charged and the PSP is plugged into the AC adaptor.
