It’s almost inevitable that you’re going to have some kind of electronic device in your home, such as a modem and router if you have internet or television if you want something to watch aside from your mobile device. Instead of letting these devices take over your home and create an unsightly appearance on your countertops or desks, there are a few ways that you can hide them so that they’re stylish and blend in with the rest of your decorations. When you start looking for ways to hide your modem and router, you need to make sure there’s still a strong signal so that everyone has access to the internet.
Maintain Signal
An easy way to hide your modem and router without cluttering your home is to put the devices in a wicker basket. Make sure the basket has holes that are large enough to allow the signal to reach other areas of the house. The basket should be placed close to the internet connection in your home for the best signal possible. A similar option would be to use a decorative box that has openings or that has the entire top open to allow for a better wireless internet signal than a wicker basket might offer because a lid might be on the wicker one. These are options to consider for your living room or bedroom, especially if you already have similar types of decorations or storage in the rooms.
Lidded Baskets
A modem and router will usually get warm enough to release at least a minimal amount of heat. If you use a basket with holes in it, then it allows the heat that builds to escape. If the devices are left in an enclosed basket, then it could result in the devices getting overheated and not working properly or malfunctioning to the point that they would need to be replaced or fixed. A large hole on the side of a lidded basket also makes it easier to run the cords from the modem and router through to the outlet instead of having multiple cords on a table or on the floor. A lidded basket is a good option if you don’t want to see the devices at all while still enjoying the internet in your home.
Organization
To keep all of the cords and devices that are kept in a basket organized, you can utilize the open areas on the box so that there’s space for the cords and so that there’s an opening for the antennas that might be on your router. The cords that run through the opening of the basket can then be guided so that they lead to the outlet instead of draped over the basket. You can put a large object on the floor like a refrigerator or a wardrobe in front of the cords if you want to hide them, such as a plant or a vase.
Placement
You want to look for areas to hide the basket so that it’s as close as possible to the outlet. You can place a small table next to the outlet if there’s not one in place already. This should give you plenty of room to put the basket as well as another decoration if you want to try to hide the fact that there are electronic devices in the box. If you want to use an open basket without a lid, then you could put a small decoration inside the basket beside the modem and router or a handtowel across one side of the basket.
