No matter how careful you are, you will most likely end up with a hole in your drywall at some point.  Life happens, after all.  The key is to make sure that you know the best way to help fix the problem as easily and as quickly as possible.  That’s what these beginner-friendly tips and tricks are going to help with.

Tricks for patching up holes in your drywall

From tiny doorknob holes to a popped nail that you remove by yourself, to a cracked and peeling corner, these tips are designed to help you out from one project to another.

  • Start with a repair patch: For a simple hole from a knob or a door jamb, you can buy a repair patch.  This is normally made out of aluminum and it’s going to go over the hole so that you can make it disappear.  Tape it securely down and then get your putty out so that you can smooth over it.  For best results, go with an oversized patch that gives you plenty of space around the hole (ie: don’t match the hole exactly).
  • Erase with a sanding sponge: For cracks rather than holes, you can try buffing them out with a sanding sponge.  You’ll want to gently buff down the entire crack.  Then use a vacuum to get all of the dust out of there.  Use our putty to smooth over the crack and then paint it with the matching color. Even if the crack is deep enough to form a true hole, this method will still work, you just need to use more putty!
  • Replace your corners: Whether it’s the inside or the outside of the corner, the only fic for a hole that looks like a crumbling corner is to replace the coder itself!  If you’re a total beginner, you can do this with paper tape!  Peel away the cracking stuff first and sand down the hole until the surface feels level.  Replace the corner with paper tape, imitating the corner itself as best you can.  Put putty over it and smooth everything flat and flush.  It seems so strange that something as simple as a bit of paper tape can cover a hole in a corner, but it works like magic!

Feeling overwhelmed?  Ask for help!

It should be said that these solutions are intended for smaller holes.  If you’ve got a giant gaping hole or you simply don’t know where to even begin when it comes to your particular situation (say the hole is in a strange location), you’ll want to call in professionals for drywall in Orange County, CA.  A professional opinion can certainly never hurt you, and it may just turn out to be the best “trick” that you can use!

Whether you take on a DIY approach with these tricks, or you decide to leave it up to the professionals, you’ll certainly be well on your way to making your drywall look brand new and like the hole never happened in the first place.  Which is what this is all about, after all!
