These Robots May Just Be What You Need to Do Chores At Home

Unless you’re living under a rock, it’s undeniable how technology has reshaped our lives for the better. And no, I’m not really talking about r22 refrigerant, smartphones, computers, and stuff, although they are pieces to the puzzle; what we want to look at here are robots that help our house become cleaner and better for everybody. Right now, because of robots and smart technology, you can literally finish household chores without almost lifting a finger.

Needless to say, these robots have revolutionized the way we clean floors, pools, lawns, and other household items. Are you interested in getting one yourself? Here, in this article, we will feature seven cleaning robots — from barbeque grill cleaners to automatic ironing systems — that will help you around the house. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather cook and watch TV with my family than scrub floors all day.

Robots “Maid” For Cleaning and Housekeeping

Robotic Lawn Mower: Gardena Sileno City

Robots with blades? That does sound scary! But for me, an unkempt lawn and the responsibility of cleaning is more of a horror story. That’s why robot lawnmowers, with their sharp blades and all, are the perfect solution to achieving a beautiful-looking lawn. In a way, robot lawn mowers are like robot vacuums for your floors, which we will discuss later.

There are several options to choose from, but I suggest your first look goes to the Gardena Sileno. Like any other autonomous grass-cutting machine, it has battery-operated cutting blades, a base station, perimeter wires as a boundary, and sensors that prevent it from going over your property. The base station acts as a charger and gives off a small electrical current that allows the robot to “sense” the wires that serve as a boundary guide.

The main reason why I suggested the Silano was because of its excellent reviews and the fact that it’s not as priced as high as its competitors. It comes in different sizes (sort of small, medium, large, and XL) depending on the size of your lawn. It also operates very quietly, can handle slopes and rough terrain, and comes with app connectivity.

Robot Mop and Vacuum: Coredy R750

There are cleaning robots that solely do mopping or vacuuming, and some, like the Coredy R750, do both. And for a hybrid mop and vacuum robot, its price is pretty affordable!

The Coredy R750 has a Boost-Intellect technology that automatically changes suction power when it detects carpets. You can also control the Coredy R750 with a virtual boundary, while its Intelligent Mopping Cleaning System allows you to enjoy a clean home with no frills. Unlike the Braava Jet 200 series, which is also a great option, the Coredy R750 cleans in random sequences and not predictable patterns.

Robotic Pool Cleaner: Dolphin Premier

If there is a lifesaver for pool owners other than getting the Kinetico or Culligan water softener, it’s robotic pool cleaners. Sure, other automatic pool cleaner types are also super functional and cost way less, but these machines require minimal human intervention.

Probably among the best in the pool cleaning market today is the Dolphin Premier. It is as easy as drop and go and packs so much technological punch it would still be a value buy for its price tag. For starters, it has smart navigation, smart controls, and scheduling, four media types, and cleans all surfaces with great precision.

A Robot That Cleans Your BBQ Grill: Grillbot Automatic Grill Cleaner

BBQs are great and all, but when it’s all said and done, you’re left with a cleaning task that makes you regret grilling in the first place. That’s why for grill enthusiasts and everyday BBQer, there’s the Grillbot Automatic Grill Cleaner.

At a little over $100, you can have this fantastic little gadget that cleans your grill until it’s looking brand new. It comes with three types of brushes and can clean gas, charcoal, and infrared grills. Now, because it doesn’t have a sensor, you have to close your grill as it cleans. However, that’s such a small price to pay for the convenience it brings.

Robotic Laundry Folding Machine: LaundriMate Laundry Folding Machine

Folding the laundry is not the definition of intense work, but it is time-consuming. If you have a family of four or five, imagine all the clothes you need to neatly fold week after week! That problem is solved if you get yourself the LaundriMate Laundry Folding Machine.

Of course, while I would love to have this machine for me, I’m afraid I must admit this isn’t for everybody just because of its price tag. The device itself costs over $1,000, enough to steal the spotlight from its remarkable laundry-folding abilities. You must either have a lot of money or develop some sort of laundry-folding phobia if you are planning to buy this one. Don’t get me wrong, the machine is totally functional, no doubt, but its hefty price tag is understandably a turn-off.

Ironing Robot: Effie Smart Iron

Like folding laundry, ironing is a necessary tool that takes time, especially if you have an extensive wardrobe. And didn’t the experts tell us that we can save electricity if we iron clothes all at once?

The thing is, the Smart Iron by Effie is still under development. But check out the things that it does: You can directly put 12 articles of clothing straight from the washer to the Effie. It dries and irons the clothes in six minutes each, tops! And there is also no need to sort your clothes in there — just put it in and let the machine do its magic.

According to its website, Effie uses different pressing techniques, knows the difference between a cotton shirt and a delicate blouse, and adjusts accordingly. That’s nothing short of amazing! The thing is, “amazing” comes with a $980 price tag, so that’s something to think about.

Self-Cleaning Litter Box: PetSafe

No matter how big of a cat person you are, nobody could stand the smell of cat excretions, and no one gets used to it. If you do have the time to look and chase after these excrements around the house, all and good; if not, you may want to look at the PetSafe self-cleaning litter box.

It is easy to assemble, and it automatically cleans and controls cat odor for weeks. Some reviews say it needs minor tweaks, such as going for a permanent tray instead of the disposable ones, but that should be up to one’s discretion. Either way, the product works and will be yours for around $130.

(For dog persons, there is a self-cleaning potty pad available too.)

Environment-Friendly Robot: Vitamix FoodCycler FC-50

Composting can be a hassle and a time-killer, but as you may have already learned in this piece, there’s already a robot in place to help you out.

The FoodCycler is a compact, space-saving food recycler primarily designed for indoor use. You can just put your food waste there and it virtually eliminates all traces of scrap odors. Wait until it’s full, turn it on, and add it to the soil for your garden– all of this in as little as 4 hours! With this product, you will reduce your food waste by up to 90% and make your home garden more productive at the same time.

The Verdict: Which of these Robots Do You Need?

All of us have different cleaning needs, so it’s up to us individually to answer that question. Admittedly, most, if not all, of the robots mentioned here are pretty expensive and can be considered a luxury rather than a necessity. The FoodCycler, the Smart Iron, and the Folding Machine are examples of what I’m talking about. (For what it’s worth, a woman commented that she’d go for the Effie smart iron over a diamond ring any day!)

For me, if we’re talking necessity, an excellent way to maintain your floors is investing in a robot mop or vacuum cleaner. It’s even more valuable if you have kids or pets that shed hair. Do not expect it to replace a more intensive upkeeping, but it is genuinely convenient for everyday use. Choose something that meets the basic requirements even if it doesn’t have fancy features. Voice recognition integration is cool and all, but most importantly, robot mops and vacuums should clean thoroughly, recognize objects, and fit your budget.

Additionally, I truly recommend a robotic pool cleaner for swimming pool owners. It may require upfront money as an initial investment, but it essentially pays itself in the long run. A Dolphin robotic pool cleaner, for example, is estimated to only use $20 worth of electricity EVERY YEAR. Compare that cost to a professional pool-cleaning service, and you’d know the monetary difference.
